Who We Are?
The Haitian American Nurses Association of Florida (H.A.N.A.) is a 501(c) 3, non-profit organization.
The Hatian American Nurses Association of Florida Inc. (HANA) was founded in 1984. Alice Casimir and Jacquiline Dasque, two registered professional nurses practicing in Miami and other professionals, saw the need to establish an organization that would provide health care services to migrant workers in the Homestead, Florida area.
HANA is a 501(c)3, non-profit membership organization, established since 1984 to provide nurses the opportunity to unite as a group, to share and provide ideas of interest, and to become effectively involved with the issues and services relevant to the health and welfare of communities in Florida. HANA fosters awareness and commitment to providing excellent nursing services. Additionally, the organization strives to increase the enrollment of Haitian nursing students through education and mentoring opportunities, as well as, creating community-networking opportunities for its members. HANA. continues to provide scholarships for students enrolled in nursing schools in Florida and Haiti.
The goals of the association are:
- To provide nurses with the opportunity to share and promote the ideas of interest to nursing
- To become effectively involved in issues and services relevant to the health and welfare of the community in Florida.
HANA. collaborates with other organizations in the community to promote health and wellness through education and prevention by providing culturally sensitive care. HANA holds annual health fairs in the tri-county areas by providing health screenings. HANA provides health education on high blood pressure, diabetic management, immunization drives, educational programs on HIV/AIDS, Obesity in Children, Colorectal Cancer Prevention, Breast Cancer, Women and Heart Disease, and Healthy Aging as well as other health concerns.
HANA. partners with several organizations including Miami Dade College, Florida Heart Research Institute, Miami Dade Public Health Department, the Haitian American Professionals Coalition (HAPC), American Cancer Society, Miami Dade Area of Health (AHEC),Project Medishare, HCR ManorCare, Island TV, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Black Nurses Association, Jamaican Nurses Association of Florida, the Phillipino Nurses Association, Indian Nurses Associaion, Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, the Florida Nurses Association, American Diabetes Association, and other organizations who are committed to help reshape the health care delivery system for all citizens in Florida and in Haiti.
